Civil Traffic Infractions

The Traffic division of the clerk’s office handles all moving and non-moving traffic citations and local boating/fishing/other infractions issued to persons in Bradford County. If you are charged with a civil infraction (careless driving, speeding etc.) you must elect one of the following options within the stated timeframe, from the date the citation was issued.

Your options for a Traffic Citation

Upon receipt of a traffic ticket for any violation where points may be assessed, you have 30 days from the date of issuance of the ticket to exerciseone of three options:

  • Option 1: Plead guilty, pay the ticket and accept points on your driver license
  • Option 2: Pay the ticket and Elect Traffic School to keep the points off your driver license
  • Option 3: Contest the ticket and request a court hearing

Option1 - Pay the Ticket

If you choose to pay the ticket, points are assessed against your driver license.
Pay Online or in person.

Option 2 - Go To Traffic School

If you choose the school option, notify the Clerk of Court when you pay the ticket that you are making a traffic school election. You will be then given a deadline to submit a certificate of completion to show compliance in order to satisfy your case.

You will have to sign an affidavit electing to attend a driving school and pay the clerk’s office the associated costs for this option within 90 days of the date of the citation.

You must provide the clerk’s office with a copy of the certificate of completion that will be issued to you by the school. Some course providers will send the court your certification of completion on your behalf, but YOU must ensure we receive it within 90 days of the date of the citation. Failure to provide the certificate within 90 days will result in your license being suspended and late fees will be assessed.

Option 3 - Contesting Your Ticket

You may contest your citation/infraction by appearing in court before a judge. To do so, you must email a request for a hearing to traffic@bradfordcountyfl.gov. Include your name, citation number, and a brief statement requesting a hearing. All of the civil traffic hearings are done remotely through Zoom. Traffic hearings are held once a month for each agency in the county and are preset by the court. Once you make your request you will be assigned a court date and a notice will be sent to your email.

If you request a hearing, the penalty is not limited to the fine amount on your ticket. If the court determines that you committed the offense, the judge can impose a fine up to $1000, depending on the offense, and/or require you to attend driving school. You will be notified of the time and date of your hearing.
